Bangkok, 20 April 2026 – Vietjet Thailand is strengthening its presence in the Northeastern region with the launch of new direct charter services connecting Udon Thani (UTH) to two of China’s major commercial hubs: Wuxi (WUX) and Yiwu (YIW). The introduction of these routes marks the return of international flight operations at Udon Thani International Airport in years, aiming to tap into the high potential of the Chinese market and further support Udon Thani’s position as a key regional gateway for travel and cross-border trade.

The expansion comes as a response to significant and growing demand from the Chinese market to visit Udon Thani, with Wuxi and Yiwu serving as key departure hubs for trade and tourism. By establishing these direct links, Vietjet Thailand aims to boost local tourism in Udon Thani by providing a seamless gateway for Chinese travelers and business investors to explore and experience the province. This initiative also offers a convenient benefit for the local community, providing direct access to Wuxi, a city celebrated for its beautiful lakeside scenery and cultural heritage, and Yiwu, famously known as the world’s largest hub for small commodity trade and business sourcing.

Mr. Woranate Laprabang, Chief Executive Officer of Vietjet Thailand, remarked "The launch of those services to Wuxi and Yiwu is a key step in our mission to connect Udon Thani with major Chinese hubs. We see stronger demand from Chinese travelers to explore this region, and by establishing this direct link, we are unlocking Udon Thani’s potential as a gateway for international exchange. This is a strategic bridge for both business and leisure that will drive sustainable growth for the local community."

To celebrate this significant milestone, Vietjet Thailand hosted a welcoming ceremony at Udon Thani International Airport to greet the inaugural groups of passengers and business travelers arriving directly from Wuxi and Yiwu, marking the return of international flights to the airport for the first time in more than a decade. The ceremony was honored by the presence of Mr. Jakrapan Chantharaphum, Deputy Governor of Udon Thani Province, Mr. Narong Arunphakmongkol, Deputy

Director-General of the Department of Airports (Academic Affairs), and Ms. Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, Deputy Governor for International Marketing Asia and South Pacific of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, together with representatives from relevant organizations. The event highlighted the warm hospitality of the Isan region and marked the official commencement of these vital international links, which are expected to foster stronger economic and cultural ties between the two regions.
